Frequently Asked QuestionsFAQsFrequently Asked Questions

How are we paid?

In most cases, we receive compensation like most Mutual funds representatives, through the embedded management expense ratios (MERs) of the mutual funds.

How much can I contribute annually to my RRSP?

Your RRSP contribution limit is 18% of earned income you reported on your tax return in the previous year.

I currently invest on my own. Do I need a Certified Financial Planner to help me save for retirement?

Saving and investing for your retirement takes time, skill, and effort. You may manage on your own, but there is a tremendous amount of knowledge gained and time saved by working with an experienced team. Our company recently celebrated our 40th anniversary, and we love to share the knowledge we have gained throughout the years. Your time is valuable, and we appreciate it if you want to spend less time worrying and more time with your loved ones or doing things that bring you joy.

Should I change my RRSP investments as I get older?

Investments in your RRSP should reflect how much time you have to save and your risk tolerance, while complementing your entire investment portfolio. As a general rule, your 20s-40s are strategic years to have a portfolio with a higher risk tolerance because, should there be any volatility in the market, you have plenty of time to recover. The closer you are to retirement, ideally the safer your portfolio becomes because one bad market year can have a serious impact on your investments. Our Certified Financial Planner meet with you to determine your risk tolerance to tailor a portfolio that’s best suited to your goals while evaluating these needs year over year.

I have a pension. Do I need an RRSP too?

You are still eligible for an RRSP if your employer offers a pension. However, you should discuss all options with your Certified Financial Planner, as perhaps a TFSA could be more warranted. That said, complementing your pension with an RRSP can provide additional benefits, including withdrawing funds for the Home Buyers’ Plan. Our team can provide guidance on maximizing your pension and RRSPs to fund your financial future strategically.
